The Survive and Thrive Advocacy Center hosts a Gadsden County event to recognize National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
ONLINE, January 14, 2021 — Encouraging public awareness of human trafficking is part of the Survive and Thrive Advocacy Center (STAC). So during January, National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, STAC and the Big Bend Coalition Against Human Trafficking (BBCAHT) are hosting several events. These community programs will highlight sex and labor trafficking in our area – including, for the fourth year in a row, an online program in Gadsden County focused on human trafficking and social justice.
Human traffickers prey on people in need. Human trafficking is directly connected to violence and abuse, economic insecurity, systemic racism, implicit bias and discrimination, and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color. The Fourth Annual Gadsden County Human Trafficking Community Forum will explore these connections through informative community-led discussions online. This platform will open the door for concerned community members to come together to explore challenges, strengths, and resources in Gadsden County to end human trafficking.
The first of these Gadsden County “Table Talks” will occur on January 14, 2021, and will be led by Pastor Douglas Harris of Midway Unity Fellowship Church, a STAC Board Member. Table Talks are casual conversations; no expertise or preparation is required. Community members and leaders, including elected representatives, agencies, organizations, and anyone who cares about learning more and making a difference in their community, are encouraged to attend—register by going to www.surviveandthriveadvocacy.org/table-talks-midway-florida.
