On April 26, 2021, Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary at Dawkins Salvage Yard, 4158 Bonnie Hill Road, outside of the city limits of Chattahoochee. The burglary resulted in the theft of property, a vehicle, and over two-hundred vehicle titles, total value of approximately $40,000.00. The business owner, Mr. Donnell Dawkins, stated that without his vehicle titles, he was unable to sell any vehicles from his business. On May 9, 2021, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers in Jackson County recovered the stolen vehicle in Malone, FL., where a male individual was arrested for Grand Theft of an Automobile.

On June 4, 2021, Mr. Dawkins reached out to Sgt. Dixon of the Chattahoochee Police Department and stated he had received information regarding an individual in Malone, FL., who was in possession of his vehicle titles. Sgt. Dixon contacted Investigator Willis with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to assist in recovering Mr. Dawkin’s vehicle titles.

Sgt. Dixon met with Investigator Willis in Jackson County and made contact with a male in Malone, FL., to inquire about the stolen vehicle titles. The contact provided information about the other individual who was in possession of the stolen titles. Sgt. Dixon and Investigator Willis made contact with a female in Malone and she had all of the stolen vehicle titles at her father’s residence locked in a safe. The female admitted she took the stolen vehicle titles from her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend approximately 3 weeks prior. It is unclear why she had the stolen vehicle titles in her possession.

All of the vehicle titles were recovered and returned to Mr. Dawkins. Chattahoochee Police Department would like to extend a thank you to the Jackson County S.O. and Investigator Willis for assisting in this investigation. Sgt. Dixon said, “It is great when agencies communicate and work together to solve cases.”
