The City of Chattahoochee announces that the following items will be conducted during the City’s March 2, 2021 City Council meeting: public hearings on the City’s application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for 2 separate Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), and a brief fair housing workshop.
- Public hearing to solicit comment on applying for a CDBG-CV grant of $200,000 – $5,000,000. The application is limited to one project which may contain public services, public facilities, or special economic development activities, to address documented needs to prepare for, respond to, or recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The City is considering applying for up to $3,500,000 in funding to restore/remodel the Old Southside School for use as a community/senior center which would house COVID-related services.
- Public hearing to solicit comment for a proposed FFY 2020 application for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of up to $700,000. Economic development CDBG grants may be up to $1,500,000. The categories of activities for which these grant funds may be used are in the areas of housing, neighborhood revitalization, commercial revitalization, or economic development and include such improvement activities as construction/rehabilitation of infrastructure (roads, water, sewer, drainage), acquisition of real property for eligible uses, loans to private-for-profit business, rehabilitation of houses and commercial buildings. For each activity that is proposed, at least 51% of the persons benefiting must be in income categories not exceeding the HUD-determined moderate income range (80% adjusted median income). In developing an application for submission to DEO, the City must plan to minimize displacement of persons as a result of planned CDBG activities, and is required to develop a plan to assist displaced persons. Various factors affecting the competitive score of the application must be considered. Additional information regarding the range of activities that may be undertaken will be provided at the public hearing.
- A brief fair housing “workshop” discussion will be held to provide information on local, state and federal laws.
The City’s appointed Citizen Advisory Task Force will conduct a meeting to discuss the CDBG program and local needs, and to develop a recommendation to the City Council regarding a potential CDBG application. This meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, March 2, 2021and is open to the public.
