Equipment Operator I Job Announcement

Compensation: Annual salary is dependent on relevant qualifications and job experience. Employee will be enrolled with the Florida Retirement System, receive paid sick and annual leave, and have a 100% employer paid CHP health insurance package

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

This is position includes manual labor and includes the operation of heavy and light equipment. Employees may be assigned to operate trucks and/or tractor mowers on a regular basis and may be required to perform laboring tasks when not assigned as truck driver or tractor-mower operator. Work is performed under the supervision of a foreman or designated supervisor for the adherence to established schedules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT JOB DUTIES

May operate a light truck in transporting trash, equipment, or other materials; operates a tractor-mower in cutting grass on highways, City-owned rights-of-way, or recreation areas.

May operate brush truck; reports any necessary repairs to supervisor daily, washes truck weekly. May be required to pick up and/or deliver parts for other vehicles.

May operate a backhoe, tractor, bucket loader, box blade, and other equipment relative to grounds maintenance and construction, or solid waste removal.

May operate other automotive equipment on a trainee, temporary, or emergency basis.

Follows standard safety precautions in the operation of the equipment; performs minor maintenance and routine housekeeping on the assigned piece of equipment.

May act as a supervisor, directing a crew in maintenance, painting, constructions, or custodial activities; may be required to perform duties of a Maintenance Worker, Laborer, Building Maintenance Worker/Custodian.

Other duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of traffic rules and regulations as well as an understanding of the operation of trucks and other light automotive equipment. Must have the ability to operate trucks, tractors, other light automotive equipment, and various cleaning equipment. Must have the ability to listen to and follow simple oral and/or written instructions. Must be able to make minor repairs and adjustments to various pieces of equipment. Must possess a minimal knowledge of the handling and use of cleaning chemicals, fertilizers, herbicides, and fungicides.

Individual must possess the ability to use all extremities, do heavy lifting and pulling, and work in adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Training and Experience

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.

Must possess a Commercial Class B Driver’s License.

One year of experience in the operation of trucks, tractors, or other light equipment and/or job-related equipment other than automotive and a strong background in the construction field. Training and qualifications can substitute for experience.
