Compensation:  $43,930-65,894 annually (dependent on relevant qualifications and job experience) plus FRS retirement package, very generous sick and vacation time accrual benefit, as well, 100% employer paid CHP health insurance package

MAJOR FUNCTION

This is responsible electric line work in supervising a group of lineman and other workers in the construction and maintenance of overhead distribution power lines.  Employees in this class maintenance of overhead power lines.  Supervision is received from a superior but employees are responsible for directing field projects in the construction and maintenance of over head power lines.  Assignments are received by written work orders and oral instructions and the work is inspected upon completion.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Studies drawings, specifications and work orders to effectively lay out work for the crew; participates as working foreman in duties of crew; supervises and directs the work of lineman and other members of the crew in the setting or poles, running wires and installing transformers.

Sees that safety precautions for the crew and the public are enforced; instructs new employees in power line operations; operates line truck, winch and pole derrick.

Requisitions and inspects materials, tools and supplies; keeps time and work records and prepares periodic reports.

Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS-KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Through knowledge of and familiarity with the principles and practices of electric power line construction and maintenance; complete knowledge of the operation of trucks, winches and derricks and other equipment and tools used in this work; ability to use all the tools of the trade and to climb a pole in order to properly direct the work; ability to control emergency situations during storms or other conditions; ability to keep records and prepare simple reports; good physical condition.

Training and Experience:  Extensive experience as a lineman and graduation from a standard high school, preferably supplemented by courses in electricity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
